Ted vest (ENG)

Ted vest is a straight, short vest with a deeper armhole and button plackets. It is knitted top down in bouclé yarn held together with one strand of wool yarn, with only the wool yarn used for the ribbing.

Firstly, stitches are cast on for the back piece, which is worked back and forth and shaped with short rows. The front pieces are then picked up and worked separately until they measure the same length as the back piece. Next, all pieces are joined together and knitted back and forth on the round needle. Lastly, ribbing is worked in double strand of the wool yarn, which are finished with double knitting and Italian bind off.

15 sts / 20 rows (10 x 10 cm / 4’ x 4’) in stockinette stitch on 5.5 mm [US 9] needles (1 strand of bouclé + 1 strand of Tynn Peer Gynt)

32 sts / 28 rows (10 x 10 cm / 4’ x 4’) in 1x1 rib (k1, p1) on 3 mm [US 2.5] needles (double strand of Tynn Peer Gynt)

Suggested needles

Choosing size

Ted vest is designed for with positive ease of approx. 16-22 cm / 6.3-8.7 inches in sizes XS-L, and gradually less in the larger sizes. 

Choose your size depending on how oversize you want the piece. Sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL correspond to bust circumference of 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100-110 (110-120) 120-130 cm / 31.5-33.5 (33.5-35.4) 35.4-37.4 (37.4-39.4) 39.4-43.3 (43.3-47.2) 47.2-51.2 inches.

Choosing yarn

Ted vest is knitted in one strand of Mohair by Canard’s Bouclé yarn held together with one strand of a fingering wool yarn (gauge of 27-28 sts per 10 cm/4’). In the ribbing double strand of the wool yarn is used. 

Another option is one strand of Isager’s Soft held together with a fingering wool yarn. 

A third option is to knit the body in double strand of a DK yarn (gauge of 20-22 sts per 10 cm/4’).
