About the pattern

The Magda sweater is worked top-down, featuring saddle shoulders and a turtleneck in double ribbing. The sweater is oversized but the construction gives it a good fit across the shoulders.

First, each saddle shoulder is worked back and forth in stockinette stitch. Stitches are then picked up along the sides of the saddle shoulders, while additional stitches are cast on between them to form the back piece. Subsequently, short rows are worked on the back piece.

Next, the front piece is worked in the same way, after which the yoke is worked in the round with increases on both front and back pieces.

The front and back are then worked separately back and forth until the desired armhole depth is reached. Subsequently, the body is worked in the round and finished with double ribbing and a regular bind-off.

The sleeves are picked up and worked in the round. Finally, stitches are picked up for the neckline. Both cuffs and the neckline are worked in double ribbing and finished with a regular bind-off.

Choosing a size

The sweater is designed with a positive ease of approx. 17–23 cm (6.7–9.1") up to size L, and then gradually decreasing with larger sizes.

The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL correspond to a bust measurement of: 80–85 (85–90) 90–95 (95–100) 100–110 (110–120) 120–130 cm / 31.5–33.5" (33.5–35.4") 35.4–37.4" (37.4–39.4") 39.4–43.3" (43.3–47.2") 47.2–51.2".

Choose your size based on your bust measurement and how oversized you want the sweater to be.

Choosing yarn

The Magda Sweater can be knitted with either one strand of a worsted-weight yarn (gauge approx. 18 sts / 10 cm (4")) or one strand of a DK-weight yarn (gauge approx. 20–22 sts / 10 cm (4")) held together with a strand of silk mohair or alpaca lace yarn/following thread.

One alternative is Peer Gynt from Sandnes Yarn (100% Norwegian wool, 50 g = 91 m / 99.5 yd) together with a silk mohair (25 g = approx. 212 m / 232 yd).

Keep in mind that yardage may vary if you choose a different yarn. I also recommend knitting a  swatch to ensure you meet the correct gauge.
