Juno sweater
79.5 SEK
Juno sweater is boxy, oversized raglan sweater with wide ribbings. It is designed to work as a scrap yarn project, since many different yarn combinations can yield the set gauge as well as it being knitted top down.
First the neckline is knitted and subsequently folded and knitted together. The backpiece is formed using short rows and then the body is knitted in the round with raglan increases. Thereafter, the body and sleeves are separated and each of them is finished with ribbing and Italian bind off.
Each part is explained thoroughly, which makes it a good beginner pattern.
Sizes: XS (S) M-L (L-XL) XL-2XL

Gauge: 15 stitches / 10 cm (4’) using 5 mm [US 8] needles after blocking
Suggested needles: 5 mm [US 8] and 4,5 mm [US 7]
Length: approx. 52 (53) 53 (54) 55 cm / 20.5 (20.9) 21.3 (21.3) 21.7 inches
Sleeve length (measured from the middle of the neck to the end of the wrist): approx. 64 (64) (64) 65 65 cm / 25.2 (25.2) (25.2) 25.6 25.6 inches
Yarn: Aran tweed from Isager (the beige and blue versions)
or
two, three or four threads of DK and/or fingering yarn (the striped version). Optimized for a scrap yarn sweater.
Yarn consumption: 500 (600) 600 (700) 700 g of Aran tweed from Isager (100 g = 160 m / 175 yards), using single thread.
The sweater is designed with a positive ease of approx. 15-30 cm / 5.9-11.8 inches, depending on how oversize you want it. Subtract the circumference of the sweater with your bust width to get the positive ease. The more oversize you want the sweater, the more positive ease. Length and sleeve length you can adapt yourself.
The sizes XS (S) M-L (L-XL) XL-2XL correspond to a bust circumference of 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-110) 100-130 cm / 31.5-33.5 (33.5-35.4) 35.4-37.4 (37.4-43.3) 39.4-51.2 inches.
The beige sweater is a size M-L and worn with a positive ease of 32 cm / 12.6’. The striped version as well as the blue version are size S and worn with a positive ease of 21 cm / 8.3’.
Yarn options
Juno can be knitted with multiple threads of yarn of different thicknesses.
A DK yarn corresponds to a gauge of ca. 20-22 stiches per 10 cm/4’, for example Peer Gynt or Double Sunday from Sandnes Garn.
A fingering yarn has a gauge of ca. 27-28 st per 10 cm/4’, e.g. Sunday from Sandnes Garn, Merino from Knitting for Olive or Pure silk from Knitting for olive.
An aran yarn has the gauge of ca. 15-18 stitches per 10 cm/4’, i.e Aran tweed from Isager or Fritidsgarn from Sandnes Garn.
The following combinations give the correct gauge:
1. 1 thread DK + 1 thread DK (= 2 threads in total)
2. 1 thread DK + 2 threads fingering (= 3 threads in total)
3. 4 threads fingering (= 4 threads in total)
4. 1 thread aran (= 1 thread in total)
One thread of silk mohair can be exchanged for a fingering yarn.
Different amounts of threads can be varied when knitting Juno, as long as the gauge is maintained. The striped version has been knitted that way.
I recommend that you make a swatch before starting the project, where you try out the yarn combinations and transitions.
